The more we have fished DEEP, the more we have had success with it, and the more we find we really enjoy eating the fish we catch. Maybe it is the colder water, or something special about the diet down there, but for whatever reason, the fish we haul up from more than 400 or 500 feet deep pretty much all are extra delicious. Delicate flavor, clean white meat. So far, the Golden Tilefish is our all time favorite.
The problem with fishing this deep is that it can be physically demanding to fish with heavy weights so far under the boat. Making this kind of fishing a more routine part of our required a significant upgrade to our fishing gear: We decided to get an electric fishing reel.
